Busaiteen Reclamation
Description
Maharraq Island is located to the north east of Manama. A number of reclamation projects have been undertaken on the island which has seen a significant increase in population. In order to address the needs of the growing population the Government commissioned the Busaiteen and West Hidd reclamation projects which will include provision for new schools and a large new hospital to serve the island.

The Busaiteen reclamation is approximately 350 hectares and includes the creation of 10km of new shoreline.

Shoreline Master Plan

Scope of Work
Edenvale Young Associates was approached by Gredeco Ansari Consultants of  Manama in Bahrain to undertake a review of the proposed design for the two reclamation sites on behalf of the CPD department of the Ministry of Works.  The Design Review included an assessment of wave overtopping, the suitability and stability of the shoreline structures including rock revetments and beaches.

Following the completion of the design review, the commission was extended to include the development of a new Shoreline Master Plan and detailed design of shoreline revetment structures with the objective of identifying potential cost savings and improving the sustainability of the reclamation.  The Shoreline Master Plan incorporated several significant modifications including the realignment of the revetment and improvements to the design of the beaches to reduce future maintenance commitments.
