The borough has a number of potential rural and urban flooding problems. In particular, Barrow in Furness is at risk of both tidal inundation and fluvial flooding with over 1,800 properties identified as being vulnerable and within the EA's high flood risk mapping area.</div> <bR> <div> Barrow in Furness is currently undergoing significant development to raise the profile of the town.  This includes the construction of a cruise liner terminal, waterside business park and a new marina village. All of these facilities are close to the Walney Channel and the EA mapping suggests that they were vulnerable to tidal inundation. </div> <bR> <div> The SFRA was divided into two phases. Phase 1 included collating data, identifying flooding problems and developing a strategy for the future.
